Stitch Fix: Reveal and review – October 2016

As I sit down to write this month’s review, I am reminded very much of my homeland – the UK. We are sat housebound due to the wind and rain hitting NC from Hurricane Matthew. It’s actually rather cozy and luckily for us, the stormy weather is nowhere near as bad as some places are getting right now. However, I thought I would take advantage of the rain and take some time for myself and share this month’s fall fix. This month I was very vague in my style note sharing my dismal ability to put together cute and casual fall outfits. I asked for neutral layers that might point me in the right direction and another pair of skinny jeans. I did ask Tina if I could try a new brand as my Just Black jeans are losing their shape.

So let’s see what Tina sent this month…

Liverpool Kay Skinny Jean – $88

I’ve had one pair of Liverpool jeans in past fixes which I did not like due to the legging style waistband. These however, I love! They’re ridiculously comfy and stretchy. Very tight but I think this is a good thing if I want them to stay that way. They are almost too long, and I have long legs, but better too long than too short. They also look awesome with my favorite top from this fix…

Market & Spruce Canby Faux Suede Elbow Patch Knit Top – $54

When I opened the box, I loved this top but thought it was a bit too big and was planning on sending it straight back. However, when I put it together with the jeans and one of my favorite pairs of boots, it was just too cute! It’s overpriced for what is essentially a t-shirt, but the elbow patch color, and really just the fact it has elbow patches, meant it ended up in my closet.

Market & Spruce Finlee Striped Pullover – $68

This was a really close maybe. It’s super comfy and I love how long the arms are. It looks cute with leggings and skinny jeans, and I could see myself snuggling up in this when winter comes. However, what put me off was the color and stripes. I’m not a massive fan of black on top as I think it’s too dark with my dark hair and pale skin. If it had been the exact same cut and material in a plain neutral cream color, I would have bought it immediately.

Papermoon Harni Cutout Detail Knit Top – $48

I really am not a fan of this top. Predominantly due to the color – I just do not think it suits me. At all. The cutout back is kinda cute but not really my thing. The fit is terrible. Just generally a big fat no. I also realized post photo shoot that I forgot to take off my new fitbit (which I love if nothing more than to prove to my husband why I need to go to bed at the hours I do!)

Skies are Blue Brilla Open Cardigan – $58

Every box I seem to get an item I’m really unsure on whether to keep or not. Generally it comes down to my mood that day and how the bank balance is doing. This was that piece. I could see myself wrapped up on the couch wearing this in winter. I liked the scallop cut on the front of the cardigan. The color is neutral but I felt a bit old for me. The material is soft. The length is great. Lots of positives. After I saw the photos from the shoot, I was even more tempted to keep it. In the end, I decided to send it back. Hopefully I will get a similar cut cardigan in a different color in next month’s fix instead (or I may regret my decision!).

Overall impressions:

This was an ok fix. I am content with it and think Tina did a good job on how vague my note was. I’m going to try and be a bit more specific next time. I haven’t given up on the idea of getting more casual fall layers in my next box – it’s definitely an area of my wardrobe that is a bit bare. Next month, not only am I getting a box, but my husband is also trialing the Stitch Fix men collection. I am excited about both and will be sure to share both on the blog. Be sure to check back next month for those reveal and reviews…

Stitch Fix: Reveal and Review – September 2016

It’s back to school for me and what better way to mark this time of year than a back to school fix! The kids always have new clothes, new shoes, new binders, so why not the teachers?! Well, that’s what was going through my mind when I requested this box. I asked Tina for a fix consisting of ‘professional attire’ only. I gave her some guidelines e.g. skirts and dresses need to be knee length at least. I also asked for one fitted dress. I was really pleased with my box – a couple items I really loved, including what may be my favorite Stitch Fix item to date!

So let’s see what was in this month’s fix…

Skies are Blue Rashford Lace Overlay Blouse – $58

I love the color and love the lace detailing (I seem to always get some lace which is good with me!). However, this felt way too old. I wanted to love it but it didn’t feel quite right. Plus on closer examination the fit on the back wasn’t great. It was bunching up quite a bit so definitely not worth the investment. Here it is with my favorite work pants – yoga dress pants from Betabrand. They are literally dress pants made out of yoga pant material. They look pretty smart and are ridiculously comfortable. I highly suggest you invest in a pair especially for any fellow teachers out there who might spend the day on the floor with kids.

Margaret M Rydel Knite Dress – $98

This is a really good twist on the ‘little black dress’. It’s a great length for work and the texture is a fun twist on a classic piece. The material is also really stretchy so it’s form fitting but comfortable. I requested a fitted dress and I love it. Tina suggested I pair it with a blazer and a delicate necklace and heels to complete the look. I decided to add a pop of color (I don’t like too much black as with my dark hair and pale skin it can look a bit depressing!) so I added bright pink flats (more practical for school) and a statement necklace I picked up on sale at Nordstrom Rack. It adds a bit of my personality to the outfit!

img_3647

Outfit details:

Necklace (Nordstrom Rack)

Flats (Express)

Status: Kept

Papermoon Iglesia Pleated Blouse – $48

A versatile blouse and the color works well with the two Gilli skirts I received. However, the material is not of a great quality. I can get an almost identical blouse in Express for the same price and for a better quality. Also, I happened to find the Papermoon Tulip Sleeve Blouse I got in one of my first fixes on Amazon for $20 so just stocked up on a navy one of those! A great find I found through the facebook group, ‘Stitch Fix for Less’.

Here is it paired with…

Gilli Lilith Skirt – $58

This has got to me the most comfortable pencil skirt in the history of pencil skirts. The material is like butter. If only I liked the design!!! I really thought hard about whether it was worth keeping for the feel alone but in the end decided I couldn’t look past the pattern. Boo! I hope I get another one just like it in a different pattern!

Bancroft Leighton Metal Bauble Necklace (Stitch Fix)

Gilli Gretchen Printed Skirt – $58

So here it is, quite possibly my favorite Stitch Fix piece to date. The moment I saw the colors and pattern I was in love. It’s lovely. Beautiful. Feminine. Delicate. Just a big yes! The tags were ripped straight off and this was in my wardrobe before I even had chance to do these photos! I paired it with the Papermoon Iglesia again, as Tina recommended. Loose tops with tight pencil skirts is becoming my ‘signature’ school outfit I think! I’m not bored of them yet!

Overall impressions:

So this fix is definitely going to take the edge of going back to school and the hectic routine our lives take when we’ve got to be out the door by 7:15am every day! At least I can look cute doing it. Another great box. I actually have no idea what I’m going to request next month…maybe some fall favorites for my favorite time of year. Until next month…

Stitch Fix: Reveal and Review – July 2016

It’s been a while since I received a fix as I postponed my July box until this week due to spending three weeks in UK visiting family. We had a fabulous, albeit exhausting, trip but it was lovely to come home, brightened somewhat by my July fix arriving only a few days later. Through being away on vacation, I didn’t spend a whole lot of time on my Pinterest board or writing my note to my stylist. I asked for a romper and a dress for work, and if possible the Loveappella Zola dress (which I’ve since found out you can just buy at Nordstrom!) so my stylist had a little less to work with. Nevertheless, she did a fabulous job.

Here’s what came in July….

Gilli Trista Faux Wrap Jersey Dress – $68

This is my fourth Gilli dress and I am yet to be disappointed. While the pattern is a little more mature than I would normally go for, the color, style, fit and length are perfect for school. For those reasons, this dress is a keeper and I know I will wear it loads. Maybe a more mature dress isn’t a bad idea either!

IMG_3527    IMG_3532

Outfit details:

Dex Jaeson Romper – $68

I asked for a fun romper for date night and my stylist Tina delivered. She also mentioned in her note how hot it gets in South Carolina so she knew this would be perfect for the weather. Yes – spot on again Tina! However, despite this, and the fact that I think it does look quite cute on, I could not escape the thought that I was going out in my underwear/pyjamas! I think it’s the fact it doesn’t have sleeves and is so lightweight, it feels like there’s not much there! That’s a deal breaker for me so sadly, it’s going back. I paired this romper with a cuff bracelet and a pair of cute sandals (per Tina’s instructions!).

Outfit details:

Bracelet (It was a gift – I have no idea where from!)

Darrah Gladiator Sandals (Dolce Vita)

Loveappella Vinson Knit Wrap Dress – $74

So this dress was sent to me because the Zola dress I asked for wasn’t in stock and it’s similar. I don’t really like it to be honest and I thought the price was really expensive for the quality of the product. It was very flimsy and really just nothing special. Will hold out for a Zola (or buy it at Nordstrom – more likely).

Moon and Sky Harmen Crochet Trim Detail Knit Top – $54

When I took this top out of the box, I sighed. It looked like another ill-fitting, much too large, top that I loved the look of but expected not to fit. Well, it is a bit big, but it’s actually really flattering and comfy on. While it’s loose, it’s loose in all the right places and, consequently, looks lovely on. This was a pleasant surprise. The colors, pattern and crochet detailing are really feminine which suit me down to a tee.

Just Black Adorra Skinny Jean – $88

Mint jeans!!! I had requested some ages ago and then kinda gave up. What a surprise to see this gorgeous pop of color when I opened my box. My first impressions was OMG these are seriously green! Like very green! Like in your face, can’t escape the glare, need to put some shades on green! I was a little hesitant to be honest. I love color but this much on my legs felt odd. So I took to facebook to seek some advice. The compliments started rolling in (thanks ladies!) and I started playing around with what I could style them with. This was SO much fun. By the end of the fashion show, I knew there was no way these were going back. Here’s some of the outfits I put together. Let me know your favorite in the comments below!

Overall impressions:

Wow – what a fabulous fix! It was close to being a 5/5 again and I really love some of the items this month. I can’t wait for the weather to cool down here so I can rock those jeans, although I can wait for school to return to wear the dress! For my next fix, I have asked for ‘professional attire only’ and have been very ambiguous – no specific things listed. I can’t wait to see what Tina comes up with! Until next month…

Stitch Fix: Reveal and Review – June 2016

Summer has finally arrived and we are roasting in 90+ degree heat here in Charlotte although the summer months also brought some bright colors and fun outfits to this month’s fix. It wasn’t my favorite fix but partly due to a few complaints I had with individual items as opposed to the overall style of the box.

So let’s see what Tina sent this month…

Dolce Vita Davina Metallic Thong Sandal – $59

These are my second pair of Stitch Fix shoes and I really love these (like the last pair). The yellow is right up my street and would brighten up an outfit with a pop of color. My issue with these shoes – and why I’ll be sending them back – the price. Stitch Fix are charging $59 for them. I found them on Amazon for $35. That’s a huge mark up. Unfortunately I couldn’t get a price match because they weren’t in the same color on Amazon. I’m not particularly happy with that aspect of Stitch Fix. I won’t be requesting shoes anymore from them as both pairs have been overpriced. However, on the plus side, I just ordered a different pair of Dolce Vita sandals from Amazon!

IMG_3200

Status: Returned

Market and Spruce Ralphie Romper – $64

I love this romper. Normally rompers are really short on me because I have long skinny legs. This one was a great fit. Very comfy and flattering around the stomach – great for my mummy tummy! My stylist suggested I pair it with the yellow sandals. I did and loved the pop of color. Black and yellow is a favorite color combination of mine.

ARATTA Simmaron Cut Out Back Top

Well clearly this top is WAY too small. It’s the first time that’s been an issue (see the next top for the opposite problem – both the same size!). It’s also just a bit weird. I see why my stylist sent it. It’s similar to the pattern on the Fate maxi dress I kept last month. However, the colors and super weird cut out back are really not my style. So this one’s a no!

IMG_3161    IMG_3163

Outfit details:

Jeans (Stitch Fix)

Status: Returned

Papermoon Argus Lace Detail Knit Top

I love the style and color of this top so much. Bright pink is another one of my favorite colors and the lace detailing on the top is gorgeous. BUT, the material is of a poor quality and felt like it had already begun to lose its shape. It is also much too large for me. Again, another Stitch Fix sizing issue. If their XS tops are this big, they really need to offer an XXS. I wouldn’t even get XS in any normal stores so I wonder how the women out there slimmer than me cope. A real shame but I have no choice but to return it.

IMG_3184    IMG_3189

Bishop + Young Flin Kimono – $54

While I hadn’t explicitly asked for a kimono in this fix, I was secretly hoping for one! This kimono was beautiful. The material as soft as silk and the fit was good. The only reason I didn’t keep it was the colors. I don’t really own much orange and really struggled with working out what to put with this. It did however confirm in my mind that a kimono is missing in my life so have since purchased a mint one on Amazon!

Overall impressions:

An interesting box this month. While I only kept one item, this felt very much my style. In fact, if nothing else, it gave me lots of good ideas for my own wardrobe and inspired some Amazon purchasing (although I’m sure Stitch Fix would rather that didn’t happen!). Until next time…

Stitch Fix: Reveal and Review – May 2016

So this Fix was incredibly exciting due to my style note…

13082703_766067120161823_901978650912509870_n

It seems that Stitch Fix and my lovely stylist Tina have actually checked out this blog! That totally made my day when I read the note. Hi Tina if you’re reading this! 🙂

If the style note wasn’t exciting enough, the fact that this fix also contained my very first pair of Stitch Fix shoes was the icing on the cake! I haven’t been this excited about a fix since my very first box. Likewise, I saw a lot of color and some pretty florals on first glance so knew this would be a good one.

Let’s see what was inside…

Steven Genna Suede Lace Up Flat – $119

So here they are – my very first Stitch Fix shoes! I really liked these shoes – they were a perfect fit and the suede was really good quality. However, the lace up feature was a bit odd to me. I know that this look is on trend, but to me the laces just dig in to my flesh and look a bit bizarre. If the shoes hadn’t had the lace ups, and were significantly cheaper (I’m not spending over $100 on flats!), I’d probably have kept them. But that’s quite a few ifs.

IMG_3040     IMG_3041

Status: Returned

Fate Ruby Maxi Dress – $78

So this was the floral pattern that caught my eye when I peeked a look at my box. The dress did not disappoint. Feminine and airy, perfect for a romantic date in the heat of summer! I love the pattern (although a bit too much grass green for my liking), and the material was lovely and light. The slits up the side and lace up back made it a bit more risqué than your average maxi and therefore, made it feel a bit younger and sexier! I ummed and ahhed over keeping this, mainly because I didn’t know when I would wear it, but in the end, I decided it was too lovely a dress to send back.

IMG_3026   IMG_3028   IMG_3032

Outfit details:

Status: Kept!

Gilli Gary Dress – $68

This is my third Gilli dress in as many fixes – clearly my stylist knows these are a hit! As with my other two dresses I’ve received (read about them here and here), this fit me perfectly! The neckline is very flattering and the material excellent quality. However, while I like the green color, the beige stripes kinda ruined it for me. It just felt a little too old for me. It was a shame and I’d love to try a similar dress in a different color.

Le Lis Dursley Lace Detail Blouse – $44

What a gorgeous top! I love the lace detailing and the color – it’s vibrant and fresh. However, what a terrible fit! This top was way too big (and as it’s already an x-small there’s no option to size down). I’ve found Stitch Fix tops to be consistently large. It’s odd seeing as all the dresses I get are smalls and fit perfectly. All the tops are x-small and predominantly too big! It’s a little frustrating as I really wanted to keep this top!

IMG_2992   IMG_2993

Outfit details:

Bancroft Leighton Metal Bauble Necklace (Stitch Fix)

Papermoon Bart Scoop Neck Blouse – $48

Hmmmm – not a fan of this top! It was a weird fit (tight by my elbows weirdly!) and the pattern is not very me! It reminded my husband of the blouses bank workers back in the UK used to wear. While yellow is one of my favorite colors, this yellow was neither a lemon coolness or vibrant mustard – just a weird in between that reminded me of old paint. Nope!

Overall impressions:

This box was a mixed bag – I loved the maxi, the shoes and the Le Lis top, but the Gilli dress was just off the mark for the stripes and the Papermoon was not me at all. However, I had a lot of fun as always! I can’t wait to wear my new maxi out and I will definitely be requesting more shoes. Thanks Tina!

Stitch Fix: Reveal and Review – April 2016

During spring break we had a fabulous week in Orlando with our family. It was wonderful. What was not so wonderful was the 12 hour painfully slow drive home. However, the misery of sitting in a car for so long with a toddler and baby was soon forgotten when we pulled into the drive and saw my Stitch Fix box on the porch 2 days early! To top it off, it was very nearly a 5/5.

Let’s see what was inside…

Pixley Kornelia 2fer Textured Knit Dress – $74

I LOVE this dress so much! It’s perfect for date nights and is a great balance of young and sexy (love the neckline and tight bottom) and age appropriate! I requested all dresses and skirts in this box but other than that, was fairly vague. This was one of the reasons I love Stitch Fix – a complete surprise and now a much loved inclusion in my wardrobe.

Loveappella Clarabella Lace Detail Maxi Skirt- $58

I love the lace detailing cut out. My stylist said it was very ‘chic and on-trend’. I don’t know if it’s ‘on-trend’ but it’s very me! However, it is just a little too tight and I like my maxi skirts to be a bit brighter as I tend to wear them with plain t-shirts as you can see from how I’ve styled this outfit. It was a hard decision on whether to keep this but in the end, the waist band had the final say!

Le Lis Cecilia Zipper Detail Aline Skirt – $58

I love the pale yellow of this skirt. I have tons of this color pinned on my Pinterest board so clearly my stylist looked. My stylist also recommended I pair it with a feminine blouse. I tried it with last month’s Skies are Blue Henley blouse and I wasn’t loving it. My husband said I looked like a 80s receptionist. Hmmmm. So I tried again with the Papermoon blouse from Fix#6. This looked much better. I love pale yellow and black – it’s a winning color combination in my opinion. Anyway, I decided against keeping this as didn’t love the fit/length on me. Plus it was super see-through (never good for high school teachers!).

I was so torn about whether to keep this dress or not! On the one hand, it’s the perfect dress for school – comfy, cute color and just the right length. The minute I tried it on, I fell in love and actually wore it out to dinner the next day! It’s flattering, beautiful quality and the colors are fab! LOVE!!!!

Overall impressions:

This was my second with my new stylist Tina and I will be requesting here from now on. It was such a great fix. Plus I now have two gorgeous dresses for date nights!

Stitch Fix: Reveal and Review – March 2016

March brought my ‘replacement fix’ after two complete flops (read January 2016 and February 2016 reviews here). After emailing back and forth with customer service, I updated my style profile, tweaked my Pinterest board and left an INCREDIBLY detailed and specific style note for my new stylist.

Here is the result…

Dex Ramuz Lace Back Blouse – $54

So in my stylist note, I specified my love for both pink, florals and lace – well this has all three! I really liked this top. It’s young, the zipper detail down the front makes it feel quite ‘trendy’ and the floral pattern is cute – all the things I love. The lace detailing down the back makes it a bit more ‘sexy’ and ‘edgy’. The only reason I’m returning this is it’s a little too big and the cut out lace back means I can’t wear it to work which means it just won’t get enough use for the $54 price tag. Here is it paired with my next item…

Level 99 Giovanni Straight Leg Jean – $108

A fabulous pair of white jeans! They are super comfy and I could tell great quality too from the moment I slipped them on. However, I am returning these due to the fact that I already have a great pair of skinny white jeans. They are also a little too big round the ankles (a constant problem of mine with skinny jeans).

IMG_2234      IMG_2238

Status: Both returned

Kut From The Kloth Piere Faux Leather Jacket -$108

In my note, I said how much I love mint color that is around this spring. I specifically wanted mint skinny jeans but my stylist informed me they are currently not in stock in my size. However, she did send this gorgeous mint faux leather jacket as an alternative. I love the color, love the style and love how it fits, but I just can’t justify the price tag especially on something that may not be ‘in style’ next spring. Here it is paired with the skinny jeans from this fix.

Collective Concepts Katelynn Printed Dress – $78

Another great way I could mix n match this fix was to pair this dress with the Kut From The Kloth faux leather jacket (as suggested by my stylist). I don’t think I would have thought of this myself but it seems to work! The dress is cute – the pattern and style is feminine, and the material is very soft. However, I don’t think this fit is particularly flattering on me. It may have looked better if I sized down but it definitely makes me look a bit bigger than I am.

Skies are Blue Grindewald Henley Blouse – $54

In my note, I requested a fitted white blouse that could be paired with skirts for work. My stylist told me that while this was not fitted, she thought I’d love it. Well I do! Classic, neutral, pretty detailing of the stripes on the sleeves, versatile, this top is great! I’ve already worn it and received several compliments so it’s a keeper! Here it is paired with my favorite Stitch Fix jeans…

Overall impressions:

So while I only kept one item from this box, I consider it a success as so much was very close! My new stylist clearly paid attention to my note, Pinterest board and style profile, as everything that was sent I could see myself wearing. I also liked how so much could be mixed and matched. This often doesn’t happen with Stitch Fix but when it does, it’s fab! It’s probably a good thing this fix wasn’t perfect as even with the keep 5 discount, this box would have cost me $281.50 to keep it all. Stitch Fix have redeemed themselves. It shows how much difference a good stylist makes and the importance of being very specific with your profile. Here’s to next month!

Stitch Fix reveal and review – February 2016

So if you read my January review, you will know that I had a pretty shocking fix! You can read the review again here. As a result, I postponed my February one until the end of the month and requested a different stylist. Well…that did not work!!!

For this box, I requested spring and summer clothes as we’re heading to Florida in a couple weeks and it’s already heating up here. Winter is short (thankfully!) so I’m happy to be hanging up the coats for another year and digging out my flip flops! I love summer clothes – cute dresses, short shorts, summer sandals, bright colors – what’s not to love?! Well unfortunately, most of this fix!

So on that note, let’s check out what February brought…

Gilli Juri Maxi Dress – $78

Now this was promising. I really like the colors (if a little bright) and the cut out back is super cute – really sexy and perfect for date nights in the sun. But I just didn’t love it enough for the price. Because of the back, I couldn’t wear it to school and I only tend to wear maxi dresses on vacation so I just don’t think this would get enough wear. It’s a shame as I do quite like it. I would definitely be interested in trying another Gilli maxi in the future (especially if on sale!).

Romolo Parkside Stone Bauble Necklace  – $34

My stylist told me to pair the necklace with the maxi which on paper makes complete sense. However, if you look closely, the colors don’t quite go. I know it’s minor but it would bother me! I was also not sold on the rope style chain – not quite my style. Otherwise I love the mint color that is around this spring. In fact, I’ve requested mint jeans in my next fix so watch this space!

Papermoon Dorset Tie Neck Top – $44

I HATE THIS TOP! I had requested florals because I like them. A lot. They’re pretty and feminine. What I don’t like are super loose, weird fitting tops. I also don’t like tassels. This has both! You can see from the side shot how weird the fit is. While it looks better with jeans, my stylist told me to pair it with the Kut from the Kloth shorts – this is why I wanted a different stylist. It is the worst combination ever! Weird boy shorts with a girly blouse thing. NO. Horrible color combination. Horrible fit. Just so horrible!!! Ewwwwwwwww.

Kut from the Kloth Elliot Cargo Pocket Short – $58

To continue…..ewwwwwww. I like my shorts short. Because if I don’t wear short shorts, I look like a boy. So in this photo, I look like a boy. Add the horrible army green color. Boy. SO far removed from anything I would ever wear. Every single note I write, I put that I’m a girly girl – pink, florals, skirts, dresses – NOT CARGO SHORTS! EVER!!!

Don’t even need to add this but…

THML Chana Dress – $68

At first I thought this was a bit boring but, on reflection, I feel like it has a lot of potential. I would need to size down as it’s just too big and therefore is a bit shapeless on me I feel. The embroidery is really pretty and the neckline and collar different (in a good way!). My stylist said this could double up as a cover up on the beach which would totally work for anyone who doesn’t go to the beach with toddlers. So I was tempted but again I just didn’t love it enough to keep.

Overall impressions:

Another pretty terrible fix. In fact, I was so frustrated that my stylist completely disregarded my note and Pinterest board that I wrote to complain to Stitch Fix. The fact that I asked for a different stylist and got the same one proves that they did not read my note. As a result, I am getting a ‘make up’ box for free this week. Stitch Fix are sending me another fix, minus the styling fee, to make amends. They gave me a few pointers on how to get the best boxes (some I already do e.g. Pinterest, while others are new, list favorite stores/celebs in your profile). So while my stylist completely bombed, Stitch Fix customer service came out on top. I have been INCREDIBLY detailed and specific in my new note to my new stylist so I’m hoping he/she comes through for me. Stay tuned!

Stitch Fix: Reveal and Review – January 2016

Stitch Fix reveal and review – January 2016

We are ‘snowed in’ in Charlotte. I use the term ‘snowed in’ loosely as really there is a sprinkling of snow covering far more dangerous ice. The South cannot cope with snow in the slightest but I’m not complaining as it meant a day off school and lots of play time with my girls. It also gives me a chance to update y’all (in true Southern spirit) with my latest Stitch Fix review.

A new year and a new Stitch Fix box! I was really looking forward to this box as I actually had some Stitch Fix credit courtesy of a gift card from my mum for Christmas. And as luck would have it, this would be the time that I get a box I really, really disliked! Half the items I only tried on for the purpose of this review (that’s how much I disliked it!).

So let’s check out what January brought…

Street Level Audrey Metal Detail Crossbody Bag – $58

I requested a cross body bag in my stylist note this month in a neutral color. I did get what I asked for (I now wish I’d specified brown/tan as that was what was in my mind!). The faux leather is nice and the actual design cute but there were a few issues which I felt meant it was not worth the $58 price tag. My main bugbear was the straps – they are a really cheap looking gold, quite disgusting. Secondly, the straps are too short. The bag does not hit where I would like it to so this bag is going back!

RD Style Bea Fleece Lined Skirt – $44

This I debated keeping as I really do quite like it. It’s a cute pattern (you can’t quite see this in the photos) and the fleece lining makes it warm for winter. I also like the burgundy color. However, it was just too small. When I got it out the box, it looked like it was meant for a child, and a small one at that! Amazingly, it stretched and fit but just showed everything! I know I won’t end up wearing a skirt that accentuates my mummy tummy!

Papermoon Atoka Printed Knit Top – $48

I asked for tunics and tops that could be worn with leggings in my note. This is what my stylist chose. Yes it does fit the description, but it doesn’t suit me! It’s way too old – I joined Stitch Fix to update my wardrobe and give it a bit of a makeover. This top is not even close to what I’m looking for and I strongly dislike the pattern. The photos actually make it seem quite cute…it’s not!

Crescent Kelie Trim Detail Tunic – $54

Another massive fail by my stylist. In her note, she said to make sure I add a belt to give more structure but that it would add ‘a flattering pop of style’. Errr….no it’s doesn’t. Nothing about this ‘pops’. It’s not particularly interesting, has a weird tassel style neck detail which reminds me of a swim cover up, and is really rather large. My stylist said she filled this box with ‘cheery pieces’ – I would love to know what is even remotely cheery about this piece. Going back!

Margaret M Emer Jacquard Print Tall Straight Leg Pant – $98

I was quite looking forward to trying a pair of Emers. They’re really popular in the Stitch Fix Facebook groups for their cute designs and comfort. I agree with the pattern being fun. They were a good length on me and I liked the outfit I put together. Definitely something I could wear to school. However, I did not think the material was that soft. They were a little stiff and slightly too big around the knee (weird I know but it would bother me!). For the price, these would need to be perfect. I also think that while the pattern is cute, it’s not something that I would get a lot of wear out of. I’m glad I got to see what all the fuss was about, even if I’m not jumping on the Emer bandwagon anytime soon.

Overall impressions:

A pretty disappointing fix. The skirt, Emers and bag could have worked if it wasn’t for size issues and if the price had reflected the quality better. While I am going to break up with my stylist, I’m not breaking up with Stitch Fix. The first fix Jessica styled for me was amazing (check out my review here) but since then she just hasn’t lived up to my expectations. I am therefore hoping it’s a stylist thing and not a Stitch Fix thing. Yes I lost my $20 styling fee this month (for the first time), but that’s the gamble with using a service like this. I have decided to skip next month for a couple reasons: I need to actually earn some money to warrant spending so much on clothes and I don’t really want any more winter clothes as Spring will be here soon in NC. One thing I think Stitch Fix should spend some time thinking about is the age of their clientele. If there’s a way to get more younger and fun clothes, I’d love to hear it!

Stitch Fix: Reveal and review – December 2015

My Christmas fix is here!!! Things have been a bit quiet on the blog recently. Partly due to me now being one organ lighter. A couple trips to the ER, an emergency surgery followed by some ‘exploratory camera work’ has resulted in me being without a gall bladder, and the blog being a little neglected as I recovered. I’m not sure the reveal photos would have been too pretty to be honest, so as they say, better late than never!

This month’s fix was a mixed bag. Some items I loved, some I detested. My stylist did a pretty good job of listening to my requests. I’m still desperately longing for the lace elbow patch sweater that some people have been getting in their boxes but she did fulfil my request for my very first Stitch Fix bag! Jessica also looked at my Pinterest board as, once again, I got the exact item I pinned!

So let’s check out what December brought…

Urban Expressions Amherst Multi-Zip Tote – $68

I LOVE this bag! I actually have bags as something I don’t want to receive from Stitch Fix (I’d rather just get clothing) but when I saw another blogger had reviewed this, I really wanted one of my own. It’s just gorgeous. A lovely red color with a cute interior too. It’s super practical – the main compartment holds my laptop and any papers I need for school. I also love the two little pockets on top. Keys go in one, phone in the other, which saves me from constantly routing around in my bag when I need either of them. The zipper details are really cute and make it a little more exciting than your average tote. It’s just perfect. At first I thought I’d use it for school when it matched what I was wearing. Now I use it every day regardless of color clashes as it’s just so gosh damn cute (and practical)!

41Hawthorn Jace Abstract Chevron Print Dress – $68

This dress is the item I pinned and naturally, I love it! Another great dress for school. It’s comfy, cute and the perfect length. I can wear it with boots, flats or heels. Very versatile. The deep purple color I think quite suits me too! This was also the first item I’ve received from 41Hawthorn which is one of Stitch Fix’s in-house labels so that was a little exciting on its own. Here it is paired with my new Kensie blazer I got from Macy’s in the Black Friday sales (also technically a Christmas present from the husband as his credit card paid for it!).

The dress also goes really well with the cardigan my stylist sent….

Pixley Martina Slub Knit Open Cardigan – $48

Jessica recommended I pair the dress with tights and the cardigan for an easy addition to keep me warm. That’s exactly what I did. I added the waist belt to help define my waist as it did look a little too slouchy otherwise. I love this cardigan – it’s very soft and comfortable – but I’ve decided to return it simply because I already own two black cardigans and one is very similar to this one.

Pixley Margo Embellished Shoulder Blouse – $68

Pixley is a brand I seem to receive a lot of. For the most part, I love it! However, this blouse is just weird. When I put it on for my husband to shoot these photos, his reaction summed it up well: “What is that?!” It has potential. I could see someone very cool making this work. The embellishment is cute. However, I had a number of issues with it. Firstly, the material is not great quality. It was quite rough and felt a bit cheap for the $68 price tag. Secondly, the embellishment made it rather stiff so it didn’t quite sit right. Thirdly, I felt a bit too much like Michael Jackson in it. Don’t ask me why. I couldn’t explain it. That was just my initial impression and one I couldn’t shift! However, I think it looks acceptable styled with my ‘winter white’ jeans here…

Papermoon Cheryl Printed Pencil Skirt – $58

I requested floral or fun patterned pencil skirts in my note to the stylist and this is what Jessica sent. It’s cute! The colors aren’t ones I would usually choose (almost a brown/purple combination), but I think it works really well with black tights which is what I wanted! The fit is great and I can see this working well for school. My stylist did suggest I pair it with the Margo Embellished Blouse but I thought it looked just plain ridiculous. My OCD could not handle the color combinations of the skirt with the gold/silver embroidery. So instead I paired it with my Papermoon blouse from November’s Stitch Fix. It’s how I realistically will wear this outfit. Plus it’s an all Papermoon outfit and I kinda like that!

Overall impressions:

This was a good fix. I love the bag and have added a couple of great items to my teacher closet. My work wardrobe is looking a lot healthier now so I may ask for more casual items in my January fix. All in all, Stitch Fix remains my favorite subscription service and the novelty has not worn off yet!

What do you think? Do you agree with what I’m keeping? Am I too harsh on the Margo blouse? How would you style these items? Let me know in the comments below.
