Wantable Accessories: Reveal and review – August 2016

After a month’s break from Wantable (simply because we were in the UK), I was happy to see this box of goodies arrive on my doorstep. And it seems the stylist notes are back. It’s very confusing that the last one had nothing and now I have an incredibly personalized one. While the notes may be inconsistent, the pieces they keep sending are consistently wonderful! In the note, this month’s stylist Kiley, referred to my request for pale pink jewelry and a nude clutch I made a few months back, and she delivered spectacularly!

Here’s what turned up…

Rae Necklace Silver – Retail price: $17.00 Wantable price: $6.51

LOVE! My favorite item this month by far! This is just the cutest statement necklace I now own. And for a ridiculously cheap $6.51. I honestly have no idea how they get prices this cheap for such good pieces. I love this necklace. It’s so girly and the color is perfect – champagne is the description they give it. Sublime!

Janice Earrings Silver – Retail price: $17.00 Wantable price: $6.51 (Top row in the picture)

Another beautiful pair of studs. These earrings feature a rhinestone border with an opaque white stone. A really versatile pair.

Raee Earrings Silver – Retail price: $14.00 Wantable price: $5.36 (Bottom row in the picture)

Now these are clearly the matching set of earrings for the necklace, so I will overlook what must be a typo in the name. Needless to say they are super cute. The pricing is again confusing – how these are only $1 less than the necklace bamboozles me (but I’m not complaining here!).

Naomi Bracelet Silver – Retail price: $19.00 Wantable price: $7.28

This is a cute cuff bracelet. I’m amazed it’s more expensive than some of the other items as I think it’s the worst quality. The cuff is adjustable which means people with skinny wrists like myself can actually wear it. However, the adjustable nature of it means I don’t think it’s going to last long as it will easily become misshapen. It’s not worth returning really so I am keeping it.

Brooklyn Wallet Tan – Retail price: $27.00 Wantable price: $10.34

My bonus 5th item! I love this little wallet which could easily double up as a clutch. If I was being picky, I’d love it to have a wrist strap just so it could transition to evening more easily. However, it’s a neutral color and I can see it getting a lot of use.

Overall impressions:

Another great box from Wantable worth a whopping $94! I’m impressed that they went back to a request I made a few months back. Everything I have been receiving has fitted my style perfectly. I think I am going to have to skip next month simply because I’m getting a bit swamped in accessories as I keep everything!

Until next time…

Wantable Accessories: Reveal and Review – June 2016

So it seems Wantable style notes are a thing of the past! That being said, this month brought some cute items and versatile pieces that I can see myself wearing regularly.

Here’s what turned up…

Lorna Sunglasses – Retail (who knows – this has disappeared too!) Wantable price: $9.45

I think I’ve got enough sunglasses having received three pairs now! However, these are another great pair with a simple tortoise frame. I like the 50s style shape – it’s a bit different but also very classy.

Bailey Watch Mint – Wantable price: $10.55

I LOVE this watch. The color is gorgeous and very ‘in’ right now. The actual dials and shape of the face is very stylish. The glass part by the digits is transparent which is a cool feature and gives it quite a modern feel. The only bad thing about this watch is, at present, it doesn’t work. I’m pretty sure that’s just a case of getting a battery put into it and I just haven’t got round to doing that. It’s worth the gamble as it’s so pretty.

Nicky Necklace Silver – Wantable price: $9.82

Another fabulous statement necklace from Wantable. This is great, as being predominantly silver in color, it is more versatile than some of the other statement pieces I’ve received. The necklace features clear stones and metal tassels. It’s a keeper!

FullSizeRender

Jan Necklace Silver – Wantable price: $6.18

This is the only ‘meh’ piece in my opinion in the box. I’m not overly blown away by it on first impressions but the simple style of the necklace, and the fact that I could really do with a new pendant style necklace after my three year old just snapped my favorite one, means I’m keeping it.

Overall impressions:

Another great box from Wantable. The only criticism I really have is that the service seems to be getting increasingly less personal. For example, in this box, there is no copy of the style note I made, nothing at all from the stylist, and now bizarrely, they have removed the retail prices too. I don’t really understand the latter especially as it actually says the total value is $99. It makes me think it’s a mistake. However, even that shouldn’t happen. It makes me a little nervous about how personalized these boxes are, but while they’re still sending stuff I love, I’m happy to keep it up for another month. Watch this space!

Stitch Fix: Reveal and Review – June 2016

Summer has finally arrived and we are roasting in 90+ degree heat here in Charlotte although the summer months also brought some bright colors and fun outfits to this month’s fix. It wasn’t my favorite fix but partly due to a few complaints I had with individual items as opposed to the overall style of the box.

So let’s see what Tina sent this month…

Dolce Vita Davina Metallic Thong Sandal – $59

These are my second pair of Stitch Fix shoes and I really love these (like the last pair). The yellow is right up my street and would brighten up an outfit with a pop of color. My issue with these shoes – and why I’ll be sending them back – the price. Stitch Fix are charging $59 for them. I found them on Amazon for $35. That’s a huge mark up. Unfortunately I couldn’t get a price match because they weren’t in the same color on Amazon. I’m not particularly happy with that aspect of Stitch Fix. I won’t be requesting shoes anymore from them as both pairs have been overpriced. However, on the plus side, I just ordered a different pair of Dolce Vita sandals from Amazon!

Status: Returned

Market and Spruce Ralphie Romper – $64

I love this romper. Normally rompers are really short on me because I have long skinny legs. This one was a great fit. Very comfy and flattering around the stomach – great for my mummy tummy! My stylist suggested I pair it with the yellow sandals. I did and loved the pop of color. Black and yellow is a favorite color combination of mine.

ARATTA Simmaron Cut Out Back Top

Well clearly this top is WAY too small. It’s the first time that’s been an issue (see the next top for the opposite problem – both the same size!). It’s also just a bit weird. I see why my stylist sent it. It’s similar to the pattern on the Fate maxi dress I kept last month. However, the colors and super weird cut out back are really not my style. So this one’s a no!

Papermoon Argus Lace Detail Knit Top

I love the style and color of this top so much. Bright pink is another one of my favorite colors and the lace detailing on the top is gorgeous. BUT, the material is of a poor quality and felt like it had already begun to lose its shape. It is also much too large for me. Again, another Stitch Fix sizing issue. If their XS tops are this big, they really need to offer an XXS. I wouldn’t even get XS in any normal stores so I wonder how the women out there slimmer than me cope. A real shame but I have no choice but to return it.

Bishop + Young Flin Kimono – $54

While I hadn’t explicitly asked for a kimono in this fix, I was secretly hoping for one! This kimono was beautiful. The material as soft as silk and the fit was good. The only reason I didn’t keep it was the colors. I don’t really own much orange and really struggled with working out what to put with this. It did however confirm in my mind that a kimono is missing in my life so have since purchased a mint one on Amazon!

Overall impressions:

An interesting box this month. While I only kept one item, this felt very much my style. In fact, if nothing else, it gave me lots of good ideas for my own wardrobe and inspired some Amazon purchasing (although I’m sure Stitch Fix would rather that didn’t happen!). Until next time…

Wantable Accessories: Reveal and review – May 2016

This month brought another fabulous Wantable accessories collection. I requested fun spring jewelry in my favorite colors: yellow, pink or turquoise and another pair of sunglasses. This collection came without a personal note from my stylist (I have no idea why) but the items did not disappoint…

Here’s what turned up…

Bryn Sunglasses – Retail: $17  Wantable price: $6.80

Another great pair of glasses (and an absolute bargain price!). These are a little oversized for my liking but seem like good quality for $6 and the reality of the situation is I lose or break sunglasses on a pretty regular basis. A pair of back-ups couldn’t go amiss!

Corinne Bracelet – Retail: $26  Wantable price: $10.40

Gorgeous!!! This bracelet is beautiful and a pretty close match to the necklace and earrings I received in my March accessories collection (read all about it here). The fact that the bracelet is stretchy is great as it actually fits my skinny little wrists. A keeper.

Terressa Earrings– Retail: $11  Wantable price: $4.40

I love these studs! So much more interesting than your average pair of stud earrings and a beautiful bold yellow stone. Plus they are a perfect match for the…

Blair Necklace – Retail: $46  Wantable price: $18.40

LOVE! LOVE! LOVE this necklace! It’s very similar to the turquoise necklace I liked in my March collection, but seeing as I wear that one all the time and absolutely love it, there was no way this was being returned. In fact, the colors are a little more versatile as while the predominant color is yellow, there are also nude/blush pink and white. I actually wore this necklace today! It’s also one of the more expensive items I’ve received ($46 retail) and one that warrants the price tag.

FullSizeRender[2]

Status: Both kept!

Overall impressions:

This collection reinforced my already firm belief that Wantable accessories are well worth the $36/$40 a month price and seem to have really nailed the accessories subscription box idea. I am loving all the collections and pieces I’ve received. I can’t wait for June’s!

Wantable Accessories: Reveal and review – April 2016

I absolutely LOVED my very first Wantable accessories collection (you can read the review here) so was eagerly awaiting my second. I requested chunky jewelry in spring colors, ideally pale pink, bracelets, and a pair of glamorous sunglasses…

Here’s what turned up…

Maureen Sunglasses in Grey Leopard – Retail: $17  Wantable price: $9.71

These are funky glasses. At first, I automatically assumed they were ‘too cool’ for me and feared I wouldn’t be able to ‘carry them off’. Well, to be honest, I still think they are ‘too cool’ and I don’t know if I ‘carry them off’ but I wear them anyway! I love them! Plus for just under $10, what’s to lose?!

Elyse Bracelet – Retail: $17  Wantable price: $9.71

A really delicate and pretty bracelet. I just can’t wear these as they just fall off my weird, skinny wrists.

Nala Bracelet – Retail: $18  Wantable price: $10.29

This definitely fits my request – chunky jewelry and bracelets – seeing as it’s both! However, like the Elyse bracelet, it’s just too big for my wrists. However, I love the design and think it would be a really versatile piece to have in my jewelry collection.

IMG_3868

Lizzie Necklace – Retail: $18  Wantable price: $10.29

This was a necklace that I ummed and ahhed over for ages. I love the color and design. In the end, I decided to return it as I couldn’t quite handle the fact one dangly bit was longer than the others. Kinda crazy of me but I know I’d be annoyed with it!

IMG_3869

Overall impressions:

Another great collection. While I only kept the funky sunglasses (which I’ve been wearing constantly!), I consider this box a success as it was just my style. A few sizing issues and some fussiness from myself was all that prevented it from being a 4/4. I can’t wait for next month!

Stitch Fix: Reveal and Review – April 2016

During spring break we had a fabulous week in Orlando with our family. It was wonderful. What was not so wonderful was the 12 hour painfully slow drive home. However, the misery of sitting in a car for so long with a toddler and baby was soon forgotten when we pulled into the drive and saw my Stitch Fix box on the porch 2 days early! To top it off, it was very nearly a 5/5.

Let’s see what was inside…

Pixley Kornelia 2fer Textured Knit Dress – $74

I LOVE this dress so much! It’s perfect for date nights and is a great balance of young and sexy (love the neckline and tight bottom) and age appropriate! I requested all dresses and skirts in this box but other than that, was fairly vague. This was one of the reasons I love Stitch Fix – a complete surprise and now a much loved inclusion in my wardrobe.

Loveappella Clarabella Lace Detail Maxi Skirt- $58

I love the lace detailing cut out. My stylist said it was very ‘chic and on-trend’. I don’t know if it’s ‘on-trend’ but it’s very me! However, it is just a little too tight and I like my maxi skirts to be a bit brighter as I tend to wear them with plain t-shirts as you can see from how I’ve styled this outfit. It was a hard decision on whether to keep this but in the end, the waist band had the final say!

Le Lis Cecilia Zipper Detail Aline Skirt – $58

I love the pale yellow of this skirt. I have tons of this color pinned on my Pinterest board so clearly my stylist looked. My stylist also recommended I pair it with a feminine blouse. I tried it with last month’s Skies are Blue Henley blouse and I wasn’t loving it. My husband said I looked like a 80s receptionist. Hmmmm. So I tried again with the Papermoon blouse from Fix#6. This looked much better. I love pale yellow and black – it’s a winning color combination in my opinion. Anyway, I decided against keeping this as didn’t love the fit/length on me. Plus it was super see-through (never good for high school teachers!).

I was so torn about whether to keep this dress or not! On the one hand, it’s the perfect dress for school – comfy, cute color and just the right length. On the other hand, I just thought it was a little boring and I didn’t love it. I went back and forth on keeping it and in the end, returned it. Hopefully I won’t regret that one!

I was SO happy this dress was in my box. I requested it specifically and pinned it, but it’s always in high demand on the Stitch Fix B/S/T Facebook groups so I thought it was going to be near impossible to get. Well, I got it! The minute I tried it on, I fell in love and actually wore it out to dinner the next day! It’s flattering, beautiful quality and the colors are fab! LOVE!!!!

Overall impressions:

This was my second with my new stylist Tina and I will be requesting here from now on. It was such a great fix. While I only kept two items, all five were so close to my style and Pinterest boards, that to me, it was a success. That’s what I’m looking for in Stitch Fix and they delivered. Plus I now have two gorgeous dresses for date nights!

Wantable Accessories Collection: Reveal and review – March 2016

So those of you who have followed the blog for a while may remember that I have had two unsuccessful wantable style edits and one wantable fitness edit (slightly more successful). I’ve since cancelled those subscriptions – the style edits were nowhere near as good as Stitch Fix and I just don’t work out enough for a monthly fitness fix! However, I have always liked the company so this month I thought I would trial the accessories collection. BEST. DECISION. EVER.

So the accessories collection, like the style and fitness edits, works on a monthly subscription basis. Each month you pay $40 (or $36 if you kept everything the previous month) and receive 4-5 stylist accessories straight to your door. Just like the style and fitness edits, you complete an online profile first which allows you to specify what you love, like and dislike (you’ll only ever receive items you like or love) along with colors, styles, and sizes (e.g. necklace length). You also have the chance to leave a note for your stylist what what you would like this month (or an ongoing general note).

For my first ever collection, I requested jewellery in spring colors – coral, pale pink/rose gold, mint/turquoise, or yellow. I said I would prefer necklaces and bracelets and would love some glamorous sunglasses.

Here’s what turned up this weekend…

IMG_3789

Nancy Necklace – Retail: $36  Wantable price: $14.26

OMG – I love this necklace SO much! It literally could not be more perfect! The colors are stunning and EXACTLY what I was looking for. Perfectly perfect!!!

Emily Earrings (studs) – Retail: $26  Wantable price: $10.30

IMG_3788

Lori Drop Earrings – Retail: $22  Wantable price: $8.71

A stunning set of earrings which coincidentally is a perfect color and style match for the Nancy necklace. Loved them the minute I opened the box!

Jenny Necklace Long Silver – Retail: $17  Wantable price: $6.73

A delicate necklace featuring a hammered metal vertical bar design. Simple but stylish. I can see me wearing this a lot to add a pretty detail to plain tops and sweaters.

Overall impressions:

I LOVE Wantable accessories! They make the Stitch Fix jewellery look seriously overpriced in comparison (I’ll be removing that from my style profile ASAP). The quality of each item was superb and amazing for the price. I love every item and will definitely be keeping this subscription going. I can’t wait to see what April brings.

Wantable Style Edit: Reveal and Review – December 2015

Wantable style edit: December 2015

Those of you who are regular readers of my blog may remember my first experience of Wantable (you can read that review here). I loved the actual box and that was about it! So I cancelled my subscription straight after returning my items. However, as the New Year came along, Wantable sent me an email saying they would waive my styling fee (normally $20) if I wanted to receive the December Style Edit. I had nothing to lose – a free try on of five items at no cost to me unless I decided to keep one. While these items were a much better fit than the first box, and my stylist note was ‘slightly’ more personal, the quality still does not compare to Stitch Fix. I don’t think I’m sold quite yet (and I’m not sure any more free boxes will change my mind!).

On to the items…

French Connection Classic Polly Plains Sleeveless Top – $48

Now this top I was excited to receive as French Connection is a brand I’m familiar with and one I’ve bought from in the past. It’s a gorgeous cobalt blue and the material is superb. I was really tempted to keep this but just didn’t think, what is effectively a plain tank, was worth the price tag. $10 less and I would have bought it!

JOA V Neck Contrast Sweater – $59

I really dislike this sweater. Not only am I not a fan of V neck sweaters generally (reminds me too much of school) but the material was just nasty! It felt cheap and I think would lose the little shape it has the minute you washed it! Meh.

IMG_1701

Olive & Oak Mixed Media Open Cardigan – $72

This is a really nice cardigan. A very flattering cut and the two different materials make it a bit more interesting than your average gray cardigan. Very versatile and easy to add to any wardrobe. The only reason I’m not keeping this is I felt it was a little too old for me. Just a personal style issue rather than the poor quality or high price tag like the other items!! Here it is paired with the French Connection tank and my favorite Stitch Fix jeans.

IMG_1726

Jack Shire Tank – $45

I had an issue with Jack clothes last time as I felt they were overpriced and poor quality. This top is similar. The lace detailing is delicate (making me feel like it won’t hold up!) but cute. Red is a color that really suits me but I just couldn’t shake the thought that this was a bit too sexy (by sexy I mean slutty) for me to want to be seen out in public in. Red and black lace just makes me think underwear! Sorry!

Envi T Back Maxi Dress – $119

OK…wait for it…Firstly, why are they sending me a maxi dress in December?! Secondly, I would never in a million years wear this pattern. Thirdly, it’s incredibly shapeless and makes me look like a ruler (which granted is pretty much what I do look like but that doesn’t mean I want to accentuate my lack of curves by wearing something that’s too big for me!). And finally, it’s $119! I don’t think you need to be a rocket scientist to know this is going back!

Overall impressions:

So I lost nothing by returning everything from this Wantable style edit and I had some fun trying everything on. It really just confirmed to me that I don’t want to try a Wantable style edit again. However, since returning this box (and making sure my subscription was cancelled!), I’ve since received an email saying I can try a fitness edit for free. I will give that a try and hope for more luck!

What are your thoughts on this style edit? Have I been too harsh?  Let me know in the comments below.

Cons Even if you request an item, you can’t be sure you will receive it.

I had fit issues with the first few boxes and some really ‘off’ stuff sent. You have to persevere as it definitely gets better with time!

Expensive. If you were to keep your entire box, it would easily be $500-$1000!

As you can see all the items on the Evereve website, it’s less exciting than Stitch Fix where you have no idea what you could receive!

I personally thought the quality of the clothing was very poor

Impersonal

Overall impressions The original and my personal favorite! I love the element of surprise, the personal notes from your stylist, how closely they look at your Pinterest board and the style of the clothes. I love the fact you get entire outfits and sale items. However, it’s a bit too expensive for me and not really my style. Definitely more ‘boho chic’ and ‘edgy’ than Stitch Fix. Not a fan. I thought it was poor quality clothing and impersonal (both the stylist’s note, styling advice and customer service).

Rating (out of 10) 9…it’d be 10 if it was a little cheaper! 7…mainly due to style 3…not impressed!

Wantable Style Edit: Reveal and Review – October 2015

This week, I was VERY excited to receive my very first Wantable Style Edit. This service works in a similar way to Stitch Fix. Click here for the details. One of the reasons I chose Wantable, was reading reviews like this one online. The clothes looked closest to my personal style and a good halfway point between Stitch Fix and Trendsend. That I still think is the case, however, there were a few issues with my box which left me a little disappointed.

Let’s start with the box. This may seem trivial but Wantable have by far the nicest packaging. The box is gorgeous! I will definitely be reusing it to store some goodies in!

IMG_2977

Upon opening the box, I was treated with a gorgeously wrapped parcel of clothes with a cool little fashion statement wrapping them. I was impressed. Sadly, the box peaked at this point!

IMG_2978

Once I began unwrapping my handpicked items, I saw a cute little booklet addressed to me with all the details of my items, prices, return policy and note from my stylist. This was a nice touch but in comparison to the style cards and personalized notes I’ve had from Stitch Fix, it didn’t compare. In fact, the stylist note read like a big fat copy and paste…here’s what Michelle said…

FullSizeRender

Each item description came with a photo, its price and a sentence about how you could style it. Each one finished with an exclamation point! They’re excited! 3/5 told me to pair it with denim…fairly obvious (and it’s what I did!). Again, in comparison to Stitch Fix, it’s lacking in personalization.

On to the items…

DE/nim Thermal Hoodie in Dusty Pink – $49

This is a cute, lightweight hoodie. The color is adorable but however much I love pale pink (and I really do!), it washes me out. I also felt like it would be better suited to fitness attire. It’s very casual and I could see me throwing this on after hitting the gym (on the rare occasions that happens!) but generally, it’s too casual for the everyday look I’m trying to pull off!

IMG_0682  IMG_0683

And here’s me doing my best Eminem impression…

KLD French Terry Dolman Top in Ivory – $58

This was by far the best piece in my box. I loved the quality of the material and thought it was really versatile that could be dressed up or down accordingly.

IMG_0678  IMG_0679

However, I’m not a fan of dolman tops mainly because I feel like a flying squirrel – check out this impression….

IMG_0681

It’s also a little too big (as were all the tops – I’m going to size down if I repeat my subscription).

Booties (Express)

Jack Kath Sweater – $80

This is a cute sweater and I loved the detailing on the back. However, there were two issues I had with it. To begin with, it was too big. However, the biggest issue was the horrible material. It was incredibly scratchy and for an $80 sweater, it was incredibly poor quality. This was one of the most disappointing items in the box and made me seriously question the quality of the clothing coming from wantable. I also felt it was a little old for me.

Skinny Denim – $79

These were described as a basic skinny jean which is accurate! However, they were too small. I couldn’t even zip them up (hence why I have not modelled them for you here – no one needs to see the attempt!). Even if they had fitted, they were not at all comfortable. A very hard denim that would not be pleasant to wear. Again, it made me question the quality of the clothing especially for the $79 price tag.

Cowl Tunic in Grey – $65

When I originally read the description of this top as ‘cowl neck’, I sighed as I really dislike cowl necks. However, I actually really loved this on. It is something I never would choose for myself (one of the reasons I love subscription boxes as it challenges you to expand your fashion choices). Again, it was too big, but more importantly, the material was far too scratchy. This is the kind of top that really needs to be super soft so you can snuggle up in it during the winter months. It wasn’t. A real shame as I probably would have kept it otherwise.

Overall impressions:

I did enjoy the experience of getting my very first wantable style edit but, overall, I was disappointed with several items. While I understand the fit issues are not the company’s fault, and I had similar problems with my first few stitch fix boxes, the quality of the material leaves much to be desired. The clothes just did not feel like $50+ clothing. And for that reason, I doubt I will be requesting another style edit in the future. However, I would be interested in exploring the collections they offer for beauty and accessories.

What do you think? Do you agree with the items I am sending back? Should I keep the dolman? Let me know in the comments below.
